World's first Dam

World's first Dam was constructed in India even still it was able Store water in it and regulate water. Thus the dam remains today testimony for our ancient engineering expertise. Around the 1st century it was built.
The name of this ancient dam is called "kallanai dam". It was built across the river Cauvery in Tamil Nadu were located from 44 km away from temple Township Thanjavur.


The height of the dam is 320 meters and the width is 60 meters. The important feature of the dam is binding materials like limestone and cement were not used.
Karikala Chola, who ruled the province during 1st century AD was built this dam.it seems to be a great conqueror.
Even today the dam collects the water and it was also used for agricultural uses. Sudarshan jalasayam, the oldest man-made dam built during 4th B.C, where present it was in Gujarat was reminded of the ancient Indian expertise in civil works.
